SWEET SAVAGE Founding Guitarist TREVOR FLEMING Dies
October 5, 2010Trevor Fleming, guitarist and founding member of NWOBHM legends SWEET SAVAGE (based in Belfast, Northern Ireland),passed away on October 2. A statement from the band regarding his death follows below.
"It is with great sadness we have to report the passing of Trevor, our beloved friend and musician.
"He has not been well for the whole year and passed away early on Saturday 2nd October.
"This was very sudden and we are shocked and extremely saddened with his departure.
"Trevor was the lifeblood of the band both in terms of musicianship and crack. He was funny, charming, extremely clever and deep, an unique individual who had many talents. Trevor could make anyone laugh, could write the catchiest riffs and lyrics; in fact, everything about Big T was totally infectious.
"He will be sorely missed by us all.
"God bless you, my friend!"
Current DEF LEPPARD guitarist Vivian Campbell, who was a member of SWEET SAVAGE from 1979 until 1982 (when he joined DIO),commented: "There's been so much death over the last year or so it's difficult to make sense of it. Our parents are of an older generation, so as difficult as it is to lose them, at least it fits with the natural order. When our friends start to die, it becomes more difficult to reconcile.
"Trevor Fleming was a founding member of SWEET SAVAGE and although it seems like a lifetime ago since he and I first met, he was much too young to die. He was a good man and he will be very missed by me and by all who knew him."
METALLICA's cover of the SWEET SAVAGE classic song "Killing Time" (co-written by Campbell) was included as the B-side to METALLICA's "The Unforgiven" single.
METALLICA frontman James Hetfield joined SWEET SAVAGE on stage at an August 20, 2008 concert at Marlay Park in Dublin, Ireland (where SWEET SAVAGE supported METALLICA) to perform "Killing Time". Fan-filmed video footage of his appearance can be viewed below.
